My personal philosophy of advanced practice nursing: The short version Assist individuals to attain and/or maintain the maximum level of health possible.
My personal philosophy of advanced practice nursing: The long version It is my belief that most individuals are responsible for their health and its’ maintenance. As an advanced practice nurse, it is my responsibility to assist these individuals in maintaining the highest level of health possible by providing education and care.
Assistance is provided through education of healthy practices and choices. Most people have choices, so, as an advanced practice nurse, it is my responsibility to offer my clients information and education about treatment options available to them. Assistance is also evidenced by aiding the clients to navigate the complicated health care system that is found in our country today.
My Philosophy of Advanced Practice Nursing Many of the health care problems in our society today could have been prevented by healthier choices of individuals. Obesity, smoking, drug use, alcohol abuse and risky behaviors are just a few of the poor choices people make that lead to many of the health problems we see today.
“A job worth doing is worth doing well” is a favorite quote of mine. Unlike many of my nursing peers, I was not lead to nursing by some divine vision or childhood dreams. I was lead to nursing as a way to support myself. Once I was in nursing school, I discovered I really enjoyed the educational part of nursing as well as the people. However, nursing is an ever changing body of knowledge. In order to do the job well, one must constantly be asking questions and seeking ways to improve the care that you are providing. I truly embrace the “Evidence based practice” beliefs that we are seeing today and enjoy researching better ways of doing my job.
